Obituary for Joseph V Laga Sr.



Joseph V. Laga, Sr., 87, of Union, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 in his home.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 8:45am. A Funeral Mass will be offered in Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park, NJ at 10am. Entombment is at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Thursday.
Born in 1929 in Comstock, Nebraska, the 7th of 9 children to Frank and Mary (nee: Nekarda) Laga. He lived in Roselle Park for the last 12 years, moving from Union in 1973.
Joseph learned his trade in Sheet Metal Heating and Air Conditioning and went on to become a Shop Foreman for Will-Rich Air Control in Roselle. He worked for Sheet Metal Workers Local 22 in Cranford and Local 25 in Carlstadt before retiring in 1992.
He served his country as a Military Guard in the US Air Force for 4 years, 2 years of which he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After an Honorable Discharge, he joined his family in New Jersey, where he met Anna. They married in 1956.
Joseph was a member of The Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Union Elks for over 40 years. In addition to being an active and loving husband, father and grandfather, Joseph had a passion for gardening, fishing, travel and trips to Atlantic City.
Predeceased by his is devoted wife of 56 years, Anna Laga (nee: Klinga).
He is survived by his loving son, Joseph V. Laga, Jr., a loving daughter, Susan Bleiwise, a dear dear brother, John “Fred” Laga and a dear sister Evelyn Schweitzer, four adored grandchildren, Bridget Laga, Joseph M. Laga, Jennifer Bleiwise, Stephanie Bleiwise and many family and friends.
