Obituary for Ernest G. "Ernie" Hammer

Ernest G. "Ernie"  Hammer
Ernest G Hammer, 91, of Kenilworth passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park, NJ on Friday, February 24, 2017at 8:45am. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Theresa Church, Kenilworth, NJ at 10am. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, NJ.
Visitation is 4 to 8pm on Thursday.
Ernest was born in Irvington, NJ and after serving his country in the Army during WWII and marrying Carmella “Millie” (nee: Cicalese) of Newark, he moved to Kenilworth, NJ where they raised their five children.
“Ernie” attended Syracuse University and worked for Lockheed and Foster Wheeler before retirement. He was kept busy with sports and the many other activities of the Hammer children. After retirement Ernie remained active in family gatherings, church and volunteer work with the Children’s Specialized Hospital, Kenilworth Historical Society, Past President, Vice-President, Nutrition Program, and Entertainment Committee of the Kenilworth Senior Club, AARP, and the Kenilworth Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Carmella “Millie” Hammer; two daughters, Maria Rodgers and her husband Bruce, and Karen Hammer, three sons, Ernest Hammer, Michael Hammer and his wife Leigh Ellen and John Hammer. He also leaves his granddaughter, Sarah and other dear family members and friends.
