Obituary for Robert J. Hannon

Robert J. Hannon, 93, of Lavalette, NJ, formerly of Springfield, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 9:15am. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church in Springfield at 10:30am. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Monday.
Born in Newark, NJ, Robert lived in Springfield before Lavalette.
He was a partner in Hannon Floor Covering and Hannon Brothers Investment Company.
Robert served his country in the during WWII, starting as a Signal Corp Operator and transferring to the Air Corp, where he attended Wittenberg College in Ohio for Bombardier Training. Then he was transferred to the Army and assigned to the 75th Infantry Division where he was assigned to the I & R Platoon to serve in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his discharge he was a Sergeant.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, secretary to the floor covering Association of New Jersey, and served as a management trustee with the local Floor Covering Union.
Robert was an active member of St. James Church and also on the finance committee.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Mary B. (Powers) Hannon, a son-in-law Brian McKenna, and a dear brother William J. Hannon, Jr.
Surviving are two loving children Robert J. Hannon and his wife Debbie and Janice McKenna; three dear brothers Frank, James and his wife Marie, and Donald Hannon; six adored grandchildren Justin, Kathleen, Brian, Tara, Patrick, and Terrence; and a cherished great-grandson Ryen. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 740 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ, 07702.
