George Ann Sousa, (nee Vanderstine) 70, recently of Lakewood, formerly a lifelong resident of Roselle Park, passed away at Meridian Nursing & Rehab, Brick, on January 6, 2019 following a valiant battle with lung cancer.
For those wishing to pay respects, visitation will be held on Tuesday January 8, from 6-9pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 40o Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park. A funeral mass will be on Wednesday January 9 at 10am at Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park, with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Newark.
George was born in Philadelphia before moving to Roselle Park, NJ as a child.
She married her husband, Jose, on September 25, 1967 and started their family together.
She worked as a legal Administrative Assistant, A Head Chef at multiple golf facilities and other establishments, and as a Flight Attendant for a private airline, among the many various vocations she held in her lifetime.
George Ann was predeceased by her husband Jose in 1995; her parents, William and Nancy Vanderstine and her sisters, Nancy Rodak (nee Vanderstine) & Christine Vanderstine.
Loving Mother to her beloved children, Gabriella Di Nardo, Jose deSousa, Christina deSousa & Tiffany deSousa. Loving Grandmother to her dear Grandchildren, Brianna deSousa, Kelsey deSousa, Raina Di Nardo, Emilio Di Nardo & Isabella Wilson; her surviving Siblings: Victoria (Rose Marie) Vanderstine and her husband Gary, nieces, Wendy Ann and Virgina Ann, William Vanderstine and his wife Sherry, nieces Dana Ann, Dawn Marie and Deja & “baby sister” Patricia Vanderstine, her partner Steve Fender and her beloved nephew Stephen P. Fender.
George was a dear friend to many with varied interests/hobbies, gardening, cooking, Tai Chi, all sciences, holistic sciences and all things of the universe. Her many “Georgeisms” will surely be repeated by those who had the privilege to love, work or just meet her. George will wish all of us Peace, Love, Understanding and above all lot’s of Laughter.
