Alfred “Bobby” Alonzo, 66, of Ocean Gate, died peacefully on January 27, 2018 after a tough battle with heart disease. Born in Lakewood, he was a lifelong resident of Ocean Gate. Mr. Alonzo attended Ocean Gate Elementary School an was a 1970 graduate of Central Reginal High School. He had worked as a Mason with his Uncle Walter before his employment with the Ocean County Buildings and Grounds Department of Toms River. Bobby became Senior Maintenance worker, known as “Babo”, in charge of safety, cleanliness and maintenance of the Sheriff Department’s “CIU” Room and Radio Room, with over 35 years of service. He proudly served his community as a Fireman and was a Lifelong Member of Ocean Gate Fire Department with almost 50 years of dedicated service. He also was a lifetime member of the Ocean Gate Historical Society and formerly served as a driver for the First Aid Squad. He was a member of Ocean County Fish and Game and Ocean Gate Republican Club. Bobby loved hunting in his youth, boating on Barnegat Bay with his skiff” Barnegat Bob”, a Yankee Fan, loved TV Land old shows, rub-off lottery tickets and daily honored the “American Flag”. He is predeceased by his mother, Edna in 1998 and many relatives and friends who he loved so much.
Surviving are; his father Alfred and his sister Aileen Alonzo. Also survived by many family, friends, co-workers, Ocean Gators who he loved and was special to him.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 31st, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral Thursday, 11am at the funeral home before Services begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow to Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
