Obituary for Joseph A "Joe Mags" Marangella

Joseph A Marangella, “Joe Mags”, 93, a lifelong Elizabeth resident, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family and beloved caregiver.
A Memorial Mass, to celebrate his life will be offered at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Elizabeth, NJ on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 9am. Please proceed directly to the church for the 9am mass. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Newark, NJ.
Mastapeter Funeral Home in Roselle Park, NJ is handling the arrangements.
He worked for Helms Trucking in Moonachie, retiring 30 years ago.
As a younger man, Joe was a tremendous athlete and softball player. He was a long-time member of the Kingston Athletic Club and the Peterstown Retired Men and Ladies Club. Up until a few years ago, he enjoyed trips to Atlantic City where he could be found playing “Let It Ride”. Joe maintained his wonderful sense of humor until the end of his life.
Joe served his country during WWII in the Army, where he earned several medals, including the Asia-Pacific Service Medal, European-African-Middle-Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. The sense of patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, nor did his generosity, optimism or love for life and his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Catherine (nee: Abitanta) Marangella, his siblings, Philomena, Salvatore, Anthony, Louis Jr. and Theresa and his wife, Pauline (nee: Bellino) Marangella
Surviving is his daughter Catherine Heineman and her husband Mark, a son Joseph Marangella and his wife Aleida, three grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Mariela, Jaclyn and Anthony, three nieces and two nephews.

Joe and his family credit the Joslin protocol for the wonderful quality of life he enjoyed while managing fifty three years of Type 2 Diabetes.
