Condolence From: Brian Schlichting
Condolence: Augie, Peggy and family

Just read about the loss of your beloved Dad and all around great man! He was always acting stern to us when we were hanging around but the second I started talking to him about his boat his demeanor softened and he would talk forever! I remember walking down his street on the way to the Pizza House hoping to catch him outside for a chat!I know all the good times spent with him will be a comfort during this difficult time. May God bless you all.

Regards

Condolence: So we only had the pleasure of knowing Augie for 5 years having moved into Madison Ave in the summer of 2011 but he made an indelible impression. A strong, effervescent man who loved his family and friends. We had lived an apartment life until moving to Cranford, and I enjoyed observing and learning from Augie the skills necessary to maintain a home. He loved his super sized equipment. In the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, Augie was out in the yard helping neighbors clean up their yards with his chain saw. I too had large branches down, so I decided to take a leaf out of Augie's book. I went to Home Depot and bought myself the last chainsaw on the shelf. After an hour of reading the instructions, and several exhausting minutes attempting to start the gas motor, I seeker help of Augie the paratrooper. He graciously stopped his work to help this hopeless amateur. A quick glance and he explained: "Well, you won't get far with this". In my eagerness to fix my substandard machine I asked: "But why is that?", then came the blunt response: "because you've put the chain on backwards". With that Augie removed the blade, corrected it, set it down, pulled the throttle with a manly yank and handed me the machine with a "Here you go son, be careful it's sharp,"
