Obituary for Santo J. Materia
Santo J Materia, 91, formerly of Kenilworth, NJ passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 in the Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 8:45am. A Funeral Mass will be offered in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at Mount St. Mary Academy , 1645 US Highway 22, Watchung, NJ at 10:30am. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
Visitation is 2 to 4pm, 7 to 9pm on Thursday.
Born in Garwood, he lived in Kenilworth for sixty years before moving Clark five years ago.
He was a Truck Driver for the Wakefern Corp., Elizabeth, NJ for ten years, retiring thirty years ago, and for Sonoco Tri State Paper Produce in Phillipsburg for 30 years.
Mr. Materia served his country in the United Sates Navy during the WWII. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, five stars and Philippine Liberation, one star.
Santo was a member of the American Legion, Westfield and the VFW, Garwood.
He was predeceased by his devoted wife of sixty years Florence M (nee: Machrone) Materia.
Surviving are his four loving daughters Karen Hart and her husband Thomas, Diane Brandel and her husband Michael, Deborah Libassi and her husband David and Denise Materia. One dear brother James Materia, six adored grandchildren, Brian and his wife Noelle, Christopher, Kimberly, Paul, Matthew and Laura and one cherished great grandson, Jeremy.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Immaculate Conception Chapel at Mount St. Mary Academy , 1645 US Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069.
